I got the Oculus Go, two months ago in November. Oculus is the VR company bought by Zuckerberg for $2.3 billion. And I got to say I'm fascinated by the technology and all the content out there for it. Like you can go to a movie theatre and watch a movie in VR and it really feels like you're at the movie theatre given how huge the environment is. Or go sky diving to going to outerspace and see things you would probably never get to experience in real life.
But I also was disturbed at the same time of where this could lead. Atleast given the plans that Zuckerberg said he has for VR in the social interaction realm. For example, there is app called AltSpaceVR. Where you can create an avatar of your choice. Choose your own house/condo/etc. And there are all these virtual worlds in there that you can visit. And you can actually meet and talk to other people that also have the Oculus Go via the microphone that comes with the headset. In one of the messages that popups in the app while it's loading, it says, VR will reach a point where you won't be able to tell the difference between reality and virtual reality. It's the closest thing to the Matrix I came across especially I feel this is the early stages.
They also got events in there where you can meet other like minded people from around the world. I plan to attend a cryptocurrency and blockchain gathering next Saturday in VR at some VR conference room. And I don't even have to leave the house. It's kind of crazy.
