Christopher asked in a recent video "why haven't we been back to the Moon?", and but a few days later, SpaceX has just announced that they will be flying two paying customers around the Moon in late-2018, in a Dragon spacecraft.

Ok,now the reason so called NASA has not been reporting about missions to the Moon because they're already is space bases up there! On the darkside...And other's just leave it that...:) As more true Disclosures are released to the General Public we will have our clarifications! Space X will have their way to mine resources from asteroids as well as space travel for public consumption...which has been going on for many many years black budget projects so on and so forth etc...

2 no real reason to return to the moon.

The only reason they went to the Moon in the first place was because of the Space Race.
I myself believe that they went because of the images recently released by the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, that show the equipment left on the Moon, and because of the laser system left up there also which is used to track the Moon's distance from us (since light speed is finite and thus can be used to measure distance) to this day.
You could also state that these pieces of evidence have been faked but that is for you to decide.
You are right though, war seems to take priority over space exploration these days, which is a real shame, because we could have achieved wonders by now if only we had invested in that instead.
Hopefully more funding, and a reason to go back, will arise in the future, but for now it seems our new goal is to go to Mars.
