There are people in Christianity who wish to 'destroy' it. There are religions with much bad in them which also wish to have Christianity destroyed. These two approaches to attempt to destroy each other religions intentionally or unintentionally from either the inside or outside to improve the world is bad.

I think the elements that bring conflict rely more in culture than religion. Motivation to change others comes from two sources:
1) to exert power over them and get them to do your will and benefit doing so 2) out of genuine care of there well being -love-
Many times this is mixed. For example smoking. They don't want people to smoke because its bad for them. Do they make it illegal sell? No. They put enough taxes on it that it will encourage them to quit. Unfortunately, the addiction is so strong most smoke anyway and the result was a lower standard of living. This hurts the poor the most. Almost without fail I will see a homeless man smoking. What was meant for good by some was exploited by others who wanted profit. This is how a law finds support by serving both interests. Sad but true.
Religion is the same. Many good people with good intentions get behind something that just so happens also has another group who wants the same for whatever selfish reason, and this other group of people don't mind exploiting religion to help obtain their means.
As far as the religious beards in the Army-- the Army had a long history of having beards. Just look at any civil war photo. This changed with WW1. Chemical warfare demands wearing gas masks that will not seal with a beard. The military to this day carries masks in the field so I don't see how any of that policy can work for frontline troops. I suspect you will see more religions that require accommodation in the marching band and ceremonial guard. This will make many commanders absolutely irate. Not because of religious intolerance, no. The commanders will be pissed because they have to parade about people with "special needs" and "special rights" that their bullet dodgers do not have. They will view it as unfair peacockery of the PC variety thats turns their beloved death machine into a rainbow butterfly they can not tolerate.
